In fact, my entire ethical argument in favor of abortion access is dependent on classifying a fetus as a person, with the same rights and restrictions as all other people.
You, a person, do not have the right to use my body against my will, even if your life is dependent on it. You, a person, are not entitled to my blood if you need a blood transfusion. You, a person, are not entitled to my kidneys if you need a transplant. The government cannot legally or ethically force me to give up, permanently or temporarily, parts of my body against my will to keep you, a person, alive.
You, a person, don’t have the legal or ethical right to violate another person’s bodily autonomy against their will for any reason. A fetus, person or not, doesn’t get that right either.
It is dangerous to propose that the government should be able to decree some people’s bodies are open to exploitation by others. It is dangerous to allow the government to strip anyone of their bodily autonomy for any reason. Once we say that some people’s bodies can be used against their will for the benefit of others, we enter some very very dangerous ethical waters.
I don’t mean to put anyone down for something relatively harmless lol but it will never not be weird to me that some people wanna fuck cartoon characters……….. it’s an animated lion for children my dude
